Jia Lee is a Malaysian composer and sound artist based in London. Her work blends organic instrumentation with experimental electronics to create immersive atmospheres and sonic worlds, exploring how stories can be felt as much as heard.
Working across film, art, documentary, and branded storytelling, Jia creates scores and sound works that move between music, texture, and silence. Her practice is intuitive and human-centred, shaped by a fascination with nature, memory, and the search for universal truths.
Her piece Family Portrait, from the album Fragile Life, was nominated for the PMA’s Mark Award 2025 for Ambient Track of the Year. In 2026, her sound work for glass artist Alana Lake’s installation Keeping Company was selected for research and exhibition at the Muslab International Electroacoustic Music Exhibition — Planeta Complejo in Mexico City.
Jia began playing classical violin at twelve before discovering electronic music, synthesisers, and film scores. She later moved to the United Kingdom to pursue her studies before settling in London. Born in Sarawak, Malaysia, home to some of the world’s oldest rainforests, her work carries traces of these contrasting worlds: the rawness and intimacy of nature alongside a curiosity for technology and experimentation.
